"each shift has a four wheel drive vehicle so we are prepared to handle any situation and my number one priority is to make sure the citizens of fairfield county are safe." the fairfield county emergency management office has been in close contact with leaders of the school district. the call on whether schools and county offices will be open friday will be made by early tomorrow morning. the city of columbia is also getting prepared for whatever weather is ahead this weekend. public works department officials anticipate the temperatures will not be cold enough to freeze water on the roadways, but officials are closely watching the bridges. they have salt and brine trucks ready to roll and four drivers prepared to do temperature checks depending on the weather

"we have four completely loaded with salt and sand right now and i have one on the yard that's empty, but we can load within a matter of five minutes and be ready to go." experts say when ice could form on your driveway, park instead this weekend on the street. use salt and sand on walkways if ice does form. one concern with ice is power outages and lines going down. david whisenant from our sister station in charlotte has more on getting ready. it happened to donna stringfield two years ago. sot "we heard a big explosion, our power went out." cart this is how it looked then, and how it could look within the next 24 hours. sot 4:41 "the one thing that we're really concerned about in this event is the potential for significance of total ice accumulation." cart frank thomason is the ems director for rowan county, and like many others he was watching the governor talk about the state's preps for the storm. his best advice? be ready before the first flake falls. sot 6:52 "check those preparedness kits,

the time to pull those things out and make sure everything's ready to go." stand up "this is a pre-packaged emergency bag. i got it a few years ago and keep it at my house. it's got some really good things in it like a good pair of work gloves, batteries, an am- fm radio, there are somethings you might not think about like an emergency thermal blanket. it's just a good mix of things you would really be able to use if you were to lose power." cart and that is likely if there is a quarter of an inch or more of ice on the power lines. today i spotted this crew cutting limbs that were it's also a good idea now to check and see where your community normally has shelters if you lose your heat. officials also say never bring a grill inside the house and don't go near powerlines that have fallen. with a little preperation you should be able to weather this freeze, and look forward to better days... in salisbury dw, wbtv, oys.

carolina trustee has pleaded not guilty to federal charges he illegally trapped and killed hawks in orangeburg county. court papers show charles williams entered the plea wednesday in columbia. prosecutors last month charged williams with seven counts of violating the migratory bird treaty act. three other men are each charged with one count. authorities say the men trapped red-tailed or cooper's hawks at the willcreek plantation during 2013 and 2014. he could face up to six months in prison on each charge if convicted traffic jams in eastover was backed up in several places the past two days because several main roads were closed. csx transportation was doing maintenance work on railroad crossings at poultry lane, hickory hill road and highway 601. the roads reopened this morning but cunningham says they should have been notified of the closings in advance. "we really would just appreciate being in the know of what's going on and what we can expect coming down the pipeline if just

consideration in the planning and implementation of this would've been nice." csx officials say they coordinated closely with local city and council authorities to schedule the closures. however, town officials say they were not notified. a con artist so legendary he made it into the movies is helping south carolina fight fraud during tax season. frank abagnale is now helping out the state department of revenue. when he was a teenager abagnale pulled off countless scams and his story inspired the movie "catch me if you can" with leonardo dicaprio. lately he's been helping the fbi, irs and corporations battle criminal fraud. he's helping the state cut into tax refund fraud that's costing the countyr $21 billion dollars a year. part of that effort he says involves reducing witholding on our paychecks so there's less money in those refunds to steal. "it's not the government's

and so, what we're doing is we're putting the money back in the taxpayer's hands. we're going to save the cost and the efforts of refunding the money, so that saves the agency money and it also helps alleviate this fraud problem because it's a whole lot easier to find fraud in a smaller number of refunds." abagnale is providing his services to the state at no charge. a boil water advisory is in effect for some parts of forest acres. this means water needs to be boiled first for places along trenholm road from lakeview circle to forest drive. it also includes businesses in the trenholm plaza shopping center. utility crews are working to repair a water main break in that area. break 1 north carolina governor pat

championship game sunday. but that's nothing new for the cats....they've been overcoming injury problems all year while they compiled the league's best record....16 and one. running back jonathan stewart was limited in practice today because of foot injury. head coach ron rivera said he looked good and he's going to play against the cardinals. defensive end jared allen was also limited with a broken bone in his foot. he was moving around okay. rivera says allen will be listed as either doubtful or questionable for sunday. the e ts have been plugging holes all season... as a result....the panthers have developed some solid back-ups. what you read in the paper...very fortunate...like i said about the next man up

we've been able to plug some guys in when our key guys have missed. talked about when the game luke missed for a little bit...we were able to have aj step up..and when we had ryan khalil waited for opportunities to step in and they've done a nice job. the arizona cardinals don't have to worry about dodging sleet and snow while they practice for the big game. the cards are enjoying sunny weather for their workouts. where was all this sunshine when we were out there for the national championship game??? arizona is scheduled to arrive in charlotte saturday morning. the cardinals are 14 and three this season...including an overtime playoff victory over green bay. the cards are a three point underdog to the panthers. quarterback carson palmer is trying to convince us he's treating this like just another game. as big as this game is..you can't make it bigger than it is.this is a regular season game in my mind...it's win or go home..there's a ton of
